2022 Best Indie Book Award Winner for Humor

They say good things take time, and that all good things come to those who wait.  The latter just sounds like propaganda to me, but in this case, I’m glad I waited. A lot of people know that I held off on doing the audiobook for Sun City, because I knew it required the right kind of talent, a real Mel Blanc kind of voice to bring those very special characters to life. I sat through over 300 auditions, and while many were good, they just weren’t perfect. Fast forward to 6 months ago and I was getting ready for work when I heard it --- the voice.

In the interest of drama, I'll hold the reveal on this monumental talent that has given texture and emotion and life to each of the characters in a way that goes beyond an auditory rendering. Suffice to say he creates a fully developed sensory experience that is truly like a movie in your head. Recorded at the incredible 11^th Street Records studio in the Vegas Arts District, I’ve been involved in one of those fantastic creative experiences that come along only rarely.

Alongside my co-director and an extraordinary sound engineer, Eric Duran-Valle, we’ve laughed, been quite emotionally touched, and ultimately gratified.  Fortunately, we have also had the good luck to have documentarians capturing this process, so in the coming weeks I’ll be sharing excerpts, pictures, and images from the forthcoming release of Sun City on all audiobook platforms.

In the meantime, and at the risk of sounding overly romantic here, it does pay to wait for the right one to come along.
