I just received word that my upcoming novel Stuck in Stowe is a finalist for the prestigious Claymore Award for Comedy. I'm delighted, of course.

This is really wonderful encouragement for a crazy little story about how art can save someone—despite their best intentions.  Considering the fantastic reviews it has received from Pulitzer winner and author Stephen Hunter, and Silver Falchion winner and prolific writer Rick Meredith, I’ll take this affirmation to heart. I’ll even go so far as to think that maybe, there is something special about it.

Disclaimers: I'm always a little iffy when it comes to artistic awards and, even more so, when it comes to competitions. I mean, to quote Billy Bob Thornton, “art is not like Track and Field.” Contests are inherently subjective, so I’ll just say congratulations to the other nominees and thanks very much for the honor. Oh, and when the time comes, buy the book. Don't borrow a copy!

The award will be announced in August at the Killer Nashville bookfest.
