I have been asked about this weird little film a couple of times, mostly, if I would ever just put it out there publicly. Well, I think it is time.

It was a little workhorse. It did its turn on the festival circuit and won a few awards, and then to my surprise, I started getting some requests from tech companies and conferences. They wanted to show it as it seemed prescient to a world moving more fully into AI. So, has recently had a second life.

Now, this short film was shot in 2019 by Jeff Bush and edited and finished with Gerritt Tisdale in 2020 when AI was still something of an abstract consideration. I guess that means it was ahead of its time. I like that.

As far as the making of the film is concerned. It was a steep curve in terms of the technical demands. I had to create all of the animation and matte overlays which was not as simple as it is today. I got lucky and had some extraordinary talent – well beyond what I deserved – engaged and supported. I’ll always be grateful for that.

Because it is important to some folks, the cartoony aspect was intentional and the actors, Bobby Haworth and Amanda Abright, Morgen McEvoy, Sriparna Sen, and Autumn Woods were just the perfect talent.

Visually, the color-temperature change from warm to cooler was representative of the organic world of the couple advancing into a more technical one. I think it was subtle enough that it ended up being felt more than truly “realized” by the audience, though, a couple of critics complimented that.

In any case, it’s out there now. Enjoy, at least until the machines take over.
